Assessment of Financial Management Practices of Secondary Schools in Nsukka and Obollo Education Zones of Enugu State

Abstract:

The study was carried out to determine assessment of financial management practices of secondary schools in Nsukka and Obollo Education Zones of Enugu State. A survey research design was used. The population for the study comprised 388 principals and bursars from the 194 Junior and Senior Secondary Schools in the two education zones. The instrument used for data collection was structured questionnaire. Four research questions and two hypotheses were formulated. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the data for answering research questions while t-test analysis was used to test the hypotheses of no significant difference at 0.05 level of significance. The study found out that the secondary schools can keep financial records through the identified practices, budgeted according to the practices identified, audited their accounts according to the identified practices and allocated to incurred expenditure. It was recommended that frequent assessment of financial management practice of secondary schools should be a priority. It was also recommended that government should punish any administrator who embezzles fund meant for school development.
