Abstract:
This study was designed to evaluate the Agricultural vocational training centres in Benue State. Six research questions and six null hypotheses were posed to guide the study. Structured research questionnaire were administered on a population of 578 including teaching staff and the graduates. Data generated from the research questions and hypotheses were collected and analysed using confirmatory survey and t-test. The results of the data analysed indicated that most facilities at minimum standards were not available in the training centres. The teachers have no teaching abilities to teach practical skills. The findings also revealed that relevant skills were taught to the graduates, yet over 70% of graduates were not competent to establish agricultural enterprises on their own. Based on the findings, some recommendations were made. These include (i) the state government to provide the required facilities at minimum standard for the training centres (ii) teachers of agricultural training centres should go for workshop and seminars (iii) students to develop self interest towards practical skill
