Gender Discrimination in Management Position: A Study of Selected Manufacturing Industries in Lagos State, Nigeria.

Abstract:

Lower access of women in managerial jobs relative to men is well established in literature. This study examines the situation of women in management with a focus on gender based discrimination and women’s progression along managerial career path in selected manufacturing firms. The study was based on a survey design involving questionnaire administration and in-depth interviews. The respondents for this study were purposively selected from P.Z industries and Seven- up Bottling Company. Findings from the study indicate that while there is no official hindrance to women’s access into management cadre relative to men, and while there is a relative increase of women in management, wider traditional perceptions about women’s capacity to manage seem to be resilient thereby reducing their drive towards progression along managerial career. ORDER COMPLETE MATERIAL FROM CHAPTER 1-5
