Identification of Mathematical Readiness Level in Junior Secondary School Class one Students in Anambra State

Abstract:

This study was designed to determine the mathematical readiness abilities of the JSS class one students at the point of their admission. Three research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. Mathematical readiness ability Test (MART) was used to collect data from a sample of 742 students in eight sampled schools,mean scores and the two way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to answer the research questions and test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance respectively. The study among other things revealed that, the JSS class one students in Anambra State were not mathematically ready to pursue JSS mathematics programme at the point of admission. It also revealed that school location had significant influence on Mathematical readiness ability, while sex had no significant influence on mathematical readiness abi1i:ties. Some recommendations were mad.e based on the findings' of the study,
