Abstract:
Personal skills are essential for students in tertiary institution to enable them to succeed in virtual learning, the study therefore discussed personal literacy skills, self-motivational skills, effective communication skills, independent learning skills and personal commitment skills, as skills required by students for virtual learning. Five research questions and three hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance guided the study, mean, standard deviation were employed to answer the research questions. The t-test statistics was used to test the hypotheses. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A total of 430 students were used to elicit information. A structured questionnaire with five point likert scale was used for data collection. The reliability coefficient of the instruments was established using Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient while three experts validated the instrument. It was found that technical literacy skills, self-motivational skills and personal commitment skills were needed for virtual learning. It was recommended that students should endeavour to attend training programme organized by government agencies to increase their level of personal skills to enable them become proficient users of technological system at their disposal.
