Personality and Social Support as Predictors of Life Satisfaction

Abstract:

The study investigated personality and social support as predictors of life satisfaction among a population of 601 staff of Nigerian Prisons, Enugu State. Data were collected using Life Satisfaction Index-Short Form (Barrette & Murk, 2009), Big Five Inventory (John, Donahue & Kentle, 1991) and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (Zimet, Dahlem, Zimet & Farley, 1988). Multiple regression analysis was used to test the significance of the hypotheses. The result of the study showed that extraversion (β =.28, P< .01), agreeableness (β =.07; P<.05) conscientiousness (β =.08; P<.05), neuroticism (β = -.35, P<.01) are significant predictors of life satisfaction. The result equally showed that friends support (β =0.14, P< 0.01), significant others support (β = 0.07, P<0 .05="" 0.01="" 0.12="" among="" and="" are="" div="" family="" findings="" for="" further="" highlighted="" implications="" life="" made="" of="" p="" participants.="" predictors="" satisfaction="" significant="" studies.="" suggestion="" support="" the="" were="">
