Personality Type, Parenting Style and Socio Economic Status as Predictors of Adolescents Delinquency Behaviour

Abstract:

The study investigated personality type, parenting style and socioeconomic status as predictors of adolescents’ delinquency behaviour among three hundred and sixty (360) secondary school students from Nsukka Local Government Area. They consist of both male and females aged 10 – 17 years with a mean age of 13.5 years. Three instruments were used such as; Type A behaviour scale, parental bonding Instrument and the Self report delinquency scale. Multiple regression analysis was used for data analysis and showed a significant effect of the predictors variables; personality type, (β= .79, P < .05) and parenting style (β = -.27, P < .001) on the dependent variable, adolescents delinquency behaviour. The findings showed that personality type and parental style are significant predictors of adolescents’ delinquency behaviour among secondary school student. Thus, the implications of the study were highlighted and suggestions were made for further studies.
