A STUDY OF THE FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE HIGH RATE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL DROPOUT IN OVIA NORTH EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE
ABSTRACT
A study of the factors responsible for the high rate of secondary school dropout in Ovia North East Local Government of Edo State.This is a belief share by many people because majorities of these children who fall into this category are children from homes where financial requirement for their education are not apparently the
compelling reasons for children dropping out of colleges.
The assessment of the causes of student dropout in the college was done using three methods namely the use of questionnaire, official record and personal interview. Fifty copies of the structures questionnaires were administered to students in Asoro Grammer Schools secondary school.
The data collected were subjected to percentage distribution ranges. The research revealed that there is a retrogressive development which is not helpful especially to student from poor homes. This has led to the student inability to meet the financial requirement of the college authority.
The study concludes the ugly development resulting from growing decadence in values of the society and appropriate government policy on education should be arrested for the good of society. Therefore, a package of strategies to enhance stability in the college of education as prosposed.
