FACTORS AFFECTING WORKERS PERFORMANCE IN THE CIVIL SERVICE: A CASE STUDY OF NIGERIAN POSTAL SERVICE (NIPOST)
ABSTRACT
The focus of this study is on factors affecting workers performance in the civil service. A case study of Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST).
However, the best cannot be achieved from the workers if their needs and aspiration which they expect from their employers are not forth coming.
This is to say that needs and aspiration instigate the behaviour pattern that an employee is likely to put up towards his work. In view of the important role played by workers towards the realization of an organizational goal like the Nigeria Postal Service, agency that prompted the researcher to carry out a study on this topic. It is the purpose of this research project to find out the factors
responsible for poor performance in the civil service, the study concentrated on motivational factors, leadership style, interpersonal relationship existing in the organization and training and development.
From the general survey, the researcher found out that lack of motivation, poor leadership style, lack of material resource, lack of proper supervision and improper training and misplacement of personal inhibit work progress.
It is hoped that with the finding and recommendations made in this study if practically implemented, will go a long way to improving the poor attitude to work in Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST). This project is presented in five chapters, chapter one introduce the general concept of
the project work which is on factors affecting workers performance in the civil service, it also briefly examines the factors associated with poor performance among workers, purpose of the study and a brief discussion of the historical background of (NIPOST) where the study was conducted
and its objectives.
