THE JOURNEY MOTIF IN AMOS TUTU-OLA’S THE PALMWINE DRINKARD AND DANIEL FAGUNWA’S THE FOREST OF A THOUSAND DAEMONS
ABSTRACT
This project concerns itself with the quest tradition that is, the hero and the quest. Two quest narratives are analytically examined. The heroes in the two novels are not killed or deflated but they grow in their journey. At best,, the hero’s quest represents intellectual and emotional initiation to
maturity. It is a kind of moral odyssey or an epitome of everyman journeying through life. The work at the same time reveals the rich cultural and moral values of the wealth of Nigerian quest narratives in particular and the world’s at large.
The palmwine drinkard by Amos Tutu-Ola, The Forest of A Thousand Daemons by Daniel Fagunwa are apotheoses of this quest narrative.
