Effect of Different Making Schemes and Scorers on Students Scores in mathematics

Abstract:

This study was conducted to ascertain the effect of different marking scheme and scorer on students scores in mathematics. Senior secondary class 2 student in Nsukka Educational Zone formed the population of the study. Three research questions and 3 hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The study was 5 x 5 factorial experiment in Nandomised Block design. Stratified random sampling was used in selecting the 2 schools. 20 student were used in both school and 5 scorer and 5 marking schemes were also used. Two research instrument were used for the study and the data collected were analized by analysis of variance. The following were the major finding of the study; (1) Different marking schemes when used by an experienced scorers produce different results. (2) Experienced scorer using the same marking scheme differ significantly from each other. 3) The scorers maintains the same level of performance over different marking scheme i.e. the scores obtained by students i s not affected by the scorer Based on these findings, it is recommended among others that each school should set up mathematics committee seminar and in-service training for mathematics teachers and more mathematics teachers should be employed
