Office Skills Training Needs of NCE Business Education Lecturers in Colleges of Education in Anambra and Enugu States

Abstract:

The main purpose of the work was to determine the office skills training needs of NCE Business Education Lecturers in Colleges of Education in Anambra and Enugu States. Fives research questions were used to elicit information for the work.Ten null hypothesis were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population was 92 NCE Business Education Lecturers, made up of 47 lecturers from Colleges of Education Technical and 45 lecturers from the Conventional. Colleges of Education. Descriptive survey design was used. Structured questionnaire validated by two lecturers from the Department of Vocational Teacher Educations, and one from Measurement and Evaluation unit of Department of Education Foundation. A pilot study of 20 lecturers of Business Education drawn from Eboyi State College of Education, Ikwo and Alvan Ikoku College of Education Owerri was done to determine reliability. Cronbach Alpha reliability test yielded reliability index of 0.73. Research questions were answered using Mean and Standard Deviation. t-test was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed that NCE Business Education Lecturers requires training in the Word Processing skills, Internet skills, Spread Sheet skills, Desktop Publishing and Reprographics skills, and Human Relations skills. The t-test results revealed that there is no significant difference in the mean responses of the lecturers in Technical and Conventional Colleges of Education that they need training. The need assessment correlated t-test of the means ratings on skills required and skills possessed revealed that the hypothesis is significant. Implying that training is needed
